Now, Prabudheva's 'Rowdy Rathore' is 'wanted'

Before I start talking here, I would like to tell you all that this new movie from SLB is a rocker. I confess that I watched it in a single screen theatre, but it is worth a watch in those dark confined big 'halls' full of cheers and whistle from the crowd.
'Rowdy Rathore', a film produced by someone who has given films like 'Khamoshi', 'Devdas', 'Black' and a dancer-actor turned director who introduced us to the massy Salman in 'Wanted'.
The film, as we know it is a remake of the Ravi Teja-starrer Telugu film 'Vikramarkudu'. It alslo marks the return of Akshay Kumar in the action genre after 7 years.
The film can be said an exact copy of the original but why it is worth a watch is because of the screenplay and the direction which goes hand to hand supporting each other in the whole movie.
Shiva (Akshay) is a small-time thief in Mumbai. He falls in love with Paro (Sonakshi), who has come from Patna to attend a marriage. Shiva manages to makes his way into Paro’s heart and she also starts loving him.
Shiva tells Paro about his real life and promises to lead a normal life. But just then his life gets a twist. He meets a girl who calls him a father. Shiva, who usually hates kids starts feeling for this cute girl and tries to hide her from Paro.
One day when Paro finds about the girl and leaves Shiva, he encounters goons who want to kill him. Another twist is inserted into Shiva's life when he meets Vikram Rathore (Akshay) and understands the reason why the little girl was calling him father.
The story unfolds and with every passing minute we see a new things coming on screen. There is nothing great about the story and narrating the whole story here won't be a spoiler I bet.
Why 'Rowdy Rathore' is a great deal is because of the characters, songs, action sequences, direction. The story is just there to hold all these together and which it does with great perfection.
Acting-wise, Akshay has done great job with his comic timing. Action scenes are too good (which you might have already seen in trailers and there is nothing more). The best part about the actions sequences is that I think they have been treated keeping a 3D movie in mind (watch the movie and feel it). Sonakshi has personally disappointed me. She (or maybe her character) has been portrayed as someone who is confused about what to do and also the expressions on her face sometimes very unreal. Talking about the negative roles, Titla, played by Supreeth Rana could have been made more fearful. I think the character didn't get time to be established properly and thus it was not able to make a good impact. Other casts were perfect in portraying their characters. Paresh Ganatra deserves a special mention for his acting. This man has long way to go and is proving his worth in whatever he is doing be it a comedy show or a movie. The little girl also did a commendable job.

Music is good. Although songs pop up one after another and makes the viewing a bit uneasy. But all songs apart from the romantic number 'Tera Ishq' are great.
Prabhudeva has done a great job in his just-second venture. After 'Wanted' people expected something very nice and guess what, the guy has done it again. His camera angles  and story building has been great throughout.
Watch the movie for some great dialogues from Akshay and also some great action scenes. Look out for Tamil actor Vijay, Kareena Kapoor and director Prabhudheva, who make a special appearance in the song 'Chinta Ta'.

The movie is being made with a budget of Rs 40 crore and has reportedly made about Rs 54 crore in the first weekend. If it goes on with the same pace, it would definately make its way somewhere near 'Dabangg'.

What the L ! ! !

Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare. (Credit: NDTV)
Guys, it's 'Lokpal' time again. After a revolution which got mixed reactions from people, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and social activist Anna Hazare will start off their campaign again by holding a day-long fast at New Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Sunday.
Both Ramdev and Anna would attempt at putting more pressure over the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government on issues related to corruption and black money.
This one-day fast would also mark the anniversary of the horrible event that took place last year at the Ramlila Grounds when Ramdev was on fast.
Ramdev supporters faced a crackdown from Delhi Police in the wee hours of the night.
Anyways, Ramdev is expected to announce his future strategies in connection to the 2014 General Elections on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Ramdev on Friday took on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying that the Congress leader is not "politically honest".
All this started when Anna Hazare, a former jawan in the Indian Army, who was fighting against corruption in the state of Maharashtra, started a nationwide protest against the corrupt practices in India.
He held many fast and had full support from learned people as Kiran Bedi (An ex-IPS), Arvind Kejriwal (former civil servant), Prashant Bhushan and Shanti Bhushan (both renowned lawyers).
If it would have been just a fight against corruption it would have been ok, but what it has turned up into is a fight against the governmet, an anti-establishment drive which has been thorougly politicised by the opposition parties.
All about 'India against corruption'
I don't say that Anna has any personal intentions in all these. But all I want him to understand is that what he is fighting against is not just people whom he oppose. His real fight is against those who act as if they are with him but are actually waiting to backstab him at the right time.
All that has been done in the past one year (the blame game by the Anna team and all the counters by the governnment and the supporters) has made a very wrong impression of India in front of whole world.
If we ever have to bring a Lokpal in practice and dream of a country where people live without corruption and mal practices, then we have to join the revolutuion by changing ourselves and not just the ruling government.
Lokpal will just be a reason. No country can stop doing what it has been since over 50 years. We have to look beyond Lokpal and strengthen our will power so that we are able to give a better future to our upcoming generations.
By the way, don't forget to join the fast tommorow if at all you have nothing else to do.

Bollywood action flicks: Walk through the memory lane

'Rowdy Rathore' releases today. A remake of the Telugu film Vikramarkudu, 'Rowdy Rathore' will mark the return of Akshay Kumar in the action genre after 7 years. Directed by Prabhu Deva (His second directorial venture after 'Wanted'), the film also stars Sonakshi Sinha who was last seen opposite Salman Khan in 'Dabangg'.

Let's have a look at some of the best Bollywood action flicks we have seen over the years:

Wanted

One of the best action film in present time, Wanted made Bollywood to look upon South film industry for action packed sequences. Directed by Prabhu Deva, Wanted was a light film with heavy action. A remake of Telugu hit 'Pokiri', it starred Salman Khan in the lead role as the wisecracking lout later revealed as a supercop.
Salman, liberated by his larger-than-life persona, threw punches that unrealistically felled dozens, but this film works because of the madness, not despite it.

Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi

A film where Akshay's 'Khiladi' status pushed him the most in terms of physicality, this film took a classical narrative, threw in an unlikely but effective female villain in the form of Rekha, and added in some WWF wrestlers at a time the sport was pretty popular in India.
The results remain for all to see, and the scenes featuring Akshay battling The Undertaker were a blast, even if it wasn't the real Undertaker.
There was a buzz in the B-town about an alleged affair between Akshay Kumar and Rekha.

Ghatak

Few men can play wrestlers with hearts of gold, but Sunny Deol can do it without blinking and we'll buy it every time. In this Rajkumar Santoshi film, Deol watches crime lord Danny Dengzongpa feudalize an oppressed colony and, struck by their helplessness and Dengzongpa's cruelty, vows to put an end to the abuse meted out to them.
A fine actioner, this was Meenakshi Seshadri's last film.

Company

This was the highest point of Ram Gopal Varma's filmography. Jaideep Sahni's sc`reenplay fictionalised the gang-wars of Mumbai in the not-so-recent past, with Ajay Devgan taking on a Dawood-like role while debutant Vivek Oberoi played a version of Chhota Rajan.
The film, exploring a young man's rise up the criminal ranks before becoming part of an intense rivalry, is a fantastic achievement and ranks right up there as one of the best crime films we've ever made.
With this film, RGV introduced the 'item number' tradition in the Bollywood.

Satya

RGV might have made many films before and since, but this 1998 movie will remain his legacy. Written by Saurabh Shukla and Anurag Kashyap, with music by Vishal Bhardwaj and featuring an incendiary performance from Manoj Bajpai, this was a film that birthed or highlighted many a cinematic sensation.
A heartbreaking rumination on Bombay, 'Satya' was primarily a profane punch to the gut, that knocked the wind out of us.
And not to forget the famous song 'Sapne Mein Milti Hai' which made us all dance.

Deewar

Yash Chopra's Deewar was an intense, amazing and pathbreaking work that shattered conventional rules in many ways. The Big B starrer had some great fight scenes involving Amitabh Bachchan in lethally good flow.
Playing a character based on iconic smuggler Haji Mastan, Bachchan shone in this film, one that cemented his Angry Young Man status and made it a tag that stuck on forever.
The iconic dialogue between Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan is something we related this blockbuster with.

Sholay

This marvel from Salim-Javed has been one of the best film made till now. Produced by GP Sippy and directed by his son Ramesh Sippy, 'Sholay' is considered by the Encyclopaedia of Hindi cinema to be among the greatest films in Indian cinema.
'Sholay' is the story of two criminals hired to capture a ruthless dacoit by the name of Gabbar Singh. The film drew its plot heavily from the conventions of Western films.
he film topped the British Film Institute's poll of "Top 10 Indian Films" of all time. 'Sholay' is set for a release in 3D version on August 15, 2012.

Singham

With looks that could kill and a physique that has surprised many, Ajay Devgn made a comeback in the action territory, doing what he does best -- blowing up cars and bashing up goons in 'Singham'.
It was a remake of the 2010 Tamil film 'Singam' featuring Suriya.

Don

Don, a wanted criminal, dies in a police chase. DSP D'Silva is the only one who knows about his death, and to get hold of the gang he trains Don-lookalike Vijay. But Vijay faces danger from the police and from within the gang. The film was a superhit and was remade by Farhan Akhtar (son of one of the writers of the original) which starred Shah Rukh Khan. Watch SRK starrer 'Don' here:

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha

Set in 1947 during the Partition of India, the film tells the story of a truck driver, Tara Singh (Sunny Deol), a Jatt Sikh, who falls in love with a Muslim girl, Sakina (Amisha Patel), belonging to an aristocratic family.
The film was full of some action-packed sequences and stunning dialogues from Sunny Deol.
The film went on to gross around Rs 135 crore. According to Box office India, around 4 crore tickets of 'Gadar' were sold during its theatrical run while films like '3 Idiots' and 'Dabangg' sold around 2.5 crore tickets.

Dabangg

Set in the Uttar Pradesh, 'Dabangg' revolves around a cop named Chulbul Pandey. 'Dabangg' set a box office record, grossing Rs 80.87 crore in its first week and thus become the highest opening week grossing Bollywood film, overtaking the '3 Idiots'. The film went on to gross Rs 215 crore worldwide.
The film was famous for some great dialogues by Salman and the item number 'Munni Badnam' which featured Malaika Arora Khan. Watch movie here:

Dhoom

A buddy-cop action film series, 'Dhoom'centers around Jai Dixit (Abhishek Bachchan), an ACP who finds himself fighting a group of bad guys or thieves and his side-kick Ali (Uday Chopra). The first film of the series had John Abraham in the negative role and was full of bike chases and high-aderline action sequences. The second film of the series had Hrithik Roshan playing a hi-tech thief and garnered success at the box-office. The film was also in news because of the kiss betwen Hrithik and Aishwarya Rai. The third film of the series will have Aamir Khan play the negative role and will also have Katrina Kaif.
